Concessive conditionals beyond Europe

Abstract The present study is concerned with complex sentences known as concessive conditionals from a functional-typological perspective. It examines the coding strategies used in protasis of three subtypes – viz. scalar, alternative, and universal global sample 17 languages, thus complementing previous their formal properties European languages ( Haspelmath & König 1998 ). results include some which are unattested suggest that König’s division between mark uniformly them differentially too simplistic, there being at least four overall marking patterns rather than two. Although these only preliminary nature, they do look promising for future research, should be based on larger more strictly stratified sample.
